As you know, the body is a self-healing, self-regulating, and self-adapting system. The best Doctor you know is the one already inside of you. This is a very powerful message! There is a second part to this; the extraordinary healing power of your body can only occur when there is no interference to the one system that controls healing. That system is the nervous system. When stresses in life accumulate, your body may become subluxated. This means that your spine is misaligned and your nervous system is interfered with. Luckily, Chiropractors are here to find the areas of your spine that are subluxated and adjust them. Over time this natural self healing can take place.
We can start out with two very important and easily explainable aspects as to how Chiropractic care can promote natural healing.
First, we know that there is an intimate relationship between that nervous system and the immune system. Back in 1975, Ronald Pero, PhD conducted research that concluded patients under regular Chiropractic care demonstrated 200% greater immune competence as compared with people not receiving chiropractic care. As well, a 400% greater immune competence as compared with people how have cancer or other serious diseases. One of the coolest things about this is that Pero determined that age didn’t matter in the study. This demonstrates that the DNA repairing enzymes were just as present in long-term chiropractic senior groups as they were in the younger groups. Pero concluded, “Chiropractic may optimize whatever genetic abilities you have so that you can fully resist serious disease…I have never seen a group other than this show a 200% increase over normal patients.”
Second, life is motion. Nobel Prize winner Dr. Roger Sperry said that 90% of simulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by movement of the spine. Obviously, we have big movements of the spine, such as when we are exercising which is great for your health. In Chiropractic, we are looking at those areas of the spine that are not properly moving. We can adjust those areas to provide proper movement, allowing the brain and body heal.
Now you know two very straight forward ways in which Chiropractic care can promote natural healing.
