I learned while in Chiropractic school that the path to becoming a Chiropractor has many different routes. There were definitely some commonalities which we will cover here. I wanted to start out by giving you my route to becoming a Chiropractor.
Mindset:
My mindset when thinking about becoming a Chiropractor, was to help athletes perform at their greatest, be my own boss, and become very successful. There are many commonalities in mindset when talking to someone who wants to become a Chiropractor. The main one is that they want to help people in a natural way. A Chiropractor looks at the body with different eyes. These eyes see a body that is powerful and incomprehensibly genius. A body that has a self-healing power that may be hindered in some way, but this hindrance can be addressed naturally. At the time they make the decision to become a Chiropractor, they may not fully understand the life changing affects a Chiropractic adjustment can have, but they all soon find out!
Background:
In contrary to mindset, the background of a Chiropractor can be excessively diverse. I decided while young and in school that Chiropractic was what I wanted to do with my life. Other Chiropractors may have a background in massage therapy, physical therapy, athletic training, or personal training. Some even find Chiropractic late in life and make the decision that they would like to become a Chiropractor. For the most part, the only commonality is that they are interested by the human body.
Education:
At Northern Arizona University, my degree was for Biology with a pre-health emphasis. Different schools may name the degree something different, but there is a list of required courses that must be met in order to get accepted into a Chiropractic program. A Chiropractor most likely has a degree in biology or kinesiology, as these degrees hit many of the requirements.
Ambition:
A Chiropractor usually has am ambitious endeavor once they graduate from school. As you know, mine was to be my own boss and help as many families as humanly possible. Often times throughout school these ambitions changed. When I started my Chiropractic education I thought I was going to work with professional athletes. No matter what the ambitious goals are, staying focused to accomplish them takes ambition in and of itself.
From time to time I sit back and look at the process I went through to become a Chiropractor. It was quite the journey! I look forward to many years to come helping families through health challenges and allowing them to experience optimum health.
