I love to get a workout in, but sometimes I have a hard time getting to the gym, and even if I get there I don’t get the best workout in. In my trial and error effort to find a great workout that didn’t include the gym I came up with an outdoor functional run workout that can be done anywhere. The best part about this workout is that it can include anything you want.
So here is what the outdoor functional run exercise includes. I plan out a route to run, I come up with a set of exercises that I want to incorporate into the run, and then I get out and do it. Remember, the doing part is the most important part of the equation. To make sure this run is awesome I recommend running a route or to a destination that you really want to go.
Alright, so with that being said let me give you an example of an outdoor functional run exercise that I have done in the past. I planned out a 3 mile run mainly through neighborhoods and on side streets. Every half mile I performed and exercise then kept running.
So here it is:
- ½ mile run
- 50 air squats
- ½ mile run
- 50 pushups
- ½ mile run
- 20 burpees
I repeated this set again to total a 3 mile run.
Of course, it is always important to get a good warmup and cool-down so you do not hurt yourself. Also, this is just an example, feel free the change the running distance and exercise reps to fit your workout load.
Here are some example of other exercise that can be used: lunges, tricep dips, jump squats, jumping jacks, planks, and mountain climbers.
Exercising is one of the many things we should be doing consistently. Just like receiving your regular Chiropractic adjustments. Both take time and effort, but the results are fantastic!
