5 Ways to Improve Your Posture

Time and time again you hear about how important it is to have good posture. Good posture takes a lot of work and poor posture seems to become a habit. Poor posture usually happens because of everyday activities like sleeping on a bad mattress or pillow, sitting in that terrible work chair while slouching to look at the computer, texting on your phone, etc. From all this you end up with aches, pain, degeneration, lack of energy and compromised function of the body. Fortunately, here are some changes you can make in your life to improve your posture.

1. Know when poor ergonomics and posture are effecting you.

Back pain may happen for many reasons, so how can you tell if it stems from poor posture and ergonomics? You can pretty much tell by learning when your pain comes about. For example, is it after a long day sitting in your chair while slouched in front of the computer? If so then you need to pay more attention to your poor posture and ergonomics.

2. Get some movement in your life during your endless sitting.

We all know that achy stiff feeling we get after we are in the same position for a long period of time, it’s a miserable feeling. Constantly change your position. Take breaks from sitting every half hour by getting up to shake it out, stretch it out, or exercise it out.

3. When sitting, sit with the proper posture.

Your chair should work to your advantage. Looking from the side, line up your ears, shoulders, and hips in a line straight up and down. Try to get your hips, knees, and ankles at 90 degrees. Crossing your legs to a figure 4, leaning your weight to one side, jetting your head forward should be avoided.

4. Regular exercise daily.

Exercise, any exercise at all is highly beneficial. You can work specifically on strengthening your core muscles if your lower back is taking a toll on you. Planks, side planks, exercise ball ab routines are all great. If you have forward slouching shoulders then concentrate on upper back exercises. Pull-ups, dumbbell fly’s, rows are all awesome.

5. Get your regular Chiropractic care.

Regular Chiropractic care will keep your spine moving properly and your nervous system working at its very best. Chiropractic care IS your foundation to health.
