Chiropractic Care, Get Over That Fever Quick!

There are many inconveniences in life. One of the worst, that no one likes to deal with is sickness, or as we call in at Ryno Family Chiropractic in Peoria, Arizona, a “health challenge.” These health challenges may happen to you, or even worst they can happen to your kids. For parents, it makes it hard to get to work, get the kids to all their activities, plus trying to get back to 100% is nearly impossible. For kids, having to miss school puts them behind in classes, miss sporting events, or band practices. On top of all that, parents may have to rearrange their schedule because they will do anything to have your kids healthy and happy. Likely the most common symptom that may be developed with a health challenge is the classic fever. We all know that 98.6 degrees is normal, but is it bad for the body to have an increase in temperature? Is the body actually doing it for a reason? Do most people try and lower a fever when it comes about? Is that the right thing to do?

A fever, or increase in temperature of the body, is your body’s natural reaction by its immune system to fend off a foreign invader (bacteria, virus, fungus, etc.). The proper response by the body is to increase its temperature to create an environment that the foreign invader can’t live in, thus ridding it from the body. Many times when a fever comes about it is a person’s first reaction to want to lower the fever. Without them actually knowing, this is working against what the body wants to do to take care of the situation. So, by taking a pill to lower the fever you are doing two things: 1) Working against what the body naturally wants to do. Although the fever does go down you are prolonging the time in which you are sick because the foreign invader has an opportunity to live in the body longer. 2) Introducing toxic synthetic chemicals into the body that harms the liver and/or stomach and other internal organs.

I often like to give the “river water” analogy when anyone has a question about fevers. If you were camping and the only water to drink was from the river; would you want to drink it right out of the river or would you want to boil it? Of course you would boil it, but why? Because the heat kills the bacteria or virus or any other microbes, correct? So how does this fit into Chiropractic? Your immune system is controlled by your nervous system, it tells it what to do, such as when and how high to heat up the body to help fight off the foreign invader. Studies that have measured the effect of Chiropractic adjustment on the immune system have showed that Chiropractic may influence T and B lymphocytes, NK (Natural Killer) cell numbers, antibody levels, phagocytic activity, and plasma bet-endorphin levels 19. I know I got kind of scientific with you, but all of the above mentioned are main parts of the immune system.

Increasing the function of the immune system equals a healthier you. Because by “health” we mean your body is able to naturally overcome health challenges when they present themselves. By getting your spine checked by a Chiropractor for vertebral subluxations you are permitting your body to have the best opportunity to not only heal from a fever, but function at its overall best.
